I have completed the entire TBI to carb conversion I completed the entire swap (Carburetor and Distributor) on my 1989 YJ 2.5L. I did not have to replace the intake manifold to do the swap.I first removed the old throttle body.I traced the mounting base of the Throttle body onto a piece of light cardboard to create a template for an adapter plate to go between the carburetor and intake manifold.

For the cam, with that Many miles I'd look at the whole valve train and assess wear very critically prior to putting in a new cam. You don't mention what cam grind your looking at but I would recommend a mild rv cam.

I went with a 650 edelbrock, with an air gap intake. The computer runs everything based on the motor sensors, many of which are related to the TBI.When the adapter plate for the 2-barrel TBI unit is placed over the stock carburetor flange, the bolt pattern may be the same, but the placement of the throttle bores is in the center of the flange, creating an obviously unusable restriction.
